Schools face a heightened risk of being targeted by cybercriminals due to ongoing security gaps according to a new report published today by Secure Schools, cybersecurity specialists for the education sector.
As cyber threats surge across the public and private sectors, The State of School Cybersecurity Report 2025 highlights the critical steps schools have taken to reduce their exposure to attacks and reveals the lingering security gaps that put them at highest risk.

have multi-factor authentication (MFA) in place across all digital devices.

Only 37% of schools
said they had a dedicated cyber incident response plan.

Fewer than half of schools (47%)
indicated they had active policies in place to immediately disable or delete IT accounts of staff when they leave.

said they carry out termly backups of their data.
